About Us
Serenity Psychological Services and Consulting LLC is a private mental health practice founded by Robert Yates III, Ph.D. in 2016. Dr. Yates is a licensed clinical psychologist and a licensed clinical addictions counselor in the state of Kansas. Serenity Psychological Services and Consulting LLC offers therapy services, psychological evaluation services, and consultation services. We are focused on providing services in a caring, compassionate, and confidential manner to individuals throughout the lifespan.
About Dr. Yates
Dr. Yates is a Kansas native having grown up in the Northwest Kansas town of Phillipsburg. Dr. Yates attended Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas, where he graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in psychology in 2006. He then attended the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas, where he received both a master of science degree in general psychology and a doctor of philosophy degree in clinical psychology in 2013. In 2013 Dr. Yates completed a one-year pre-doctoral internship at Pennsylvania Counseling Services in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, where he specialized in general mental health and substance use treatment. Following his formal education, Dr. Yates completed a one-year post-doctoral fellowship at High Plains Mental Health Center. Dr. Yates then served as the senior clinical supervisor of the outpatient substance use treatment program at High Plains Mental Health Center in Hays, Kansas, before starting Serenity Psychological Services and Consulting LLC. Dr. Yates is also an adjunct faculty member in the psychology department at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas, where he teaches a variety of undergraduate psychology courses for the Virtual College, as well as an adjunct professor at Purdue Global University teaching online courses in the graduate psychology and addictions counseling programs.
About Dawn Gregory
Dawn Gregory is a Nebraska native who grew up in South Central Nebraska. In 2003, Ms. Gregory graduated summa cum laude from the University of Nebraska at Kearney with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in education with an emphasis in sociology. She continued at UNK to graduate with distinction with a Master’s of Science degree in community counseling where she was recognized with membership in Chi Sigma Iota. Following her formal education, Ms. Gregory began her career as a mental health therapist with Epworth Village in York, Nebraska. While there, she worked with youth ages 5-21 with major mental illness, as well as, severe emotional and behavioral health issues focusing on individual, family and group therapies to facilitate healing. In 2011, Ms. Gregory opened Counseling Solutions, a private practice working with individuals, couples and families, as well as, contracting with York College to provide therapeutic services to the students. Ms. Gregory has extensive experience working with individuals across a lifespan who have a wide range of mental health needs. In her free time, Ms. Gregory enjoys spending time with her family and pursuing creative endeavors.
About Angela Mermis
Angela Mermis was born in Dallas, Texas, and grew up in Northwest Kansas in the town of WaKeeney. Ms. Mermis attended Wichita State University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology with a minor in psychology in 1995. While in Wichita, she worked in substance abuse and mental health treatment at New Beginnings, Options, The Recovering Adolescent Program, Booth Family Services (JO & CINC), Recovery Service Center, and The Family Guidance Center. She then attended the University of Kansas in Overland Park, Kansas, at the Regents Center, where she received a Master of Social Welfare degree in 1999. Following her formal education, Ms. Mermis maintained her career for roughly 20+ years in the Kansas City Metro & surrounding communities providing adult, adolescent, and geriatric mental health services. Locally, Angela was a part of a successful pilot program to determine if licensed social workers made a statistical difference in family success in avoiding recidivism to foster care through care management in aftercare programming for St Francis Community Services. She then worked as a crisis clinician at High Plains Mental Health Center in Hays, Kansas. Though Ms. Mermis grew up in the rural Midwest, and resides in the area now, Ms. Mermis spent a major part of her career addressing the plight of those living in the inner city and understands the cultural perspective and struggles that can be different than what are commonly experienced in more rural areas. With extensive and vast experience, Ms. Mermis is eager to advocate, empower and strengthen those she sees through assessment, individual, family, and group therapy services.
